Mystified

• 'Professor Aucoin and the Jazz Scientists' is a slightly tongue-in-cheek moniker that may conjure ideas of their music that aren't necessarily so. The players are indeed 'jazz scientists' having dedicated their work to educating young and 'experienced' jazz lovers alike. However, the music contained on this album is 'earthy' and speaks to issues of love, society, nostalgia, and faith. It attempts to communicate these universal tenets through jazz, blues, and funk influences. It would be hard to deny the New Orleans influences that imbued Professor Aucoin in his musically formative days, but there are certainly shades of Georgia to be found. When you hear this group rip into a slow, greasy blues or an 'in your face' funk groove, the last thing you'll be thinking about is a Locrian #2 scale...
